Hearshaw and Kinnes Analytical Laboratory was established in November 2002, to provide a dedicated cost effective pesticide residue testing service, to the canning industry, fruit exporters, pack houses, rooibos tea and dried fruit producers.
In November 2004, the laboratory attained accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025 (now ISO/IEC 17025:2005) for pesticide residue testing, using Gas Chromatography. In January 2008, the scope of this accreditation was extended to include Liquid Chromatography.
The laboratory is currently equipped with state of the art gas chromatographs fitted with Nitrogen Phosphorous Detectors (NPD), Electron Capture Detectors (ECD), Flame Photometric Detectors (FPD) and Mass Selective Detectors (MSD), as well as High Performance Liquid Chromatographs with Triple Quad (MSMS) and Orbi-trap Detectors.
All of the instrumentation in use at the laboratory has been acquired since 2003, and we are constantly striving to improve the service offered through the introduction of new instruments and techniques, in order to meet the requirements of the export market, as well as the local food industry.
At present we are able to offer a range of multi-residue screens covering most of the chemicals commonly used in the food industry, including Dithiocarbamate and Ethephon testing.
